Starbucks
The 2015 Future Lions Prompt was to "connect an audience of your choosing to a product or service from a global brand in a way that wasn't possible five years ago." We chose to pair a random-matching video chat algorithm (like a safe version of Chatroulette) with the brand Starbucks. Their mission statement is to "inspire and nurture the human spirit" which fit perfectly with our idea to make the world a smaller, and friendlier place.
We wanted to connect two individuals in different Starbucks locations over video chat, through thought-provoking questions and their love of coffee. We hoped that bringing people from different parts of the world together would spark a world-wide mission to create "one less stranger." This project acted as an extension of the #AtStarbucks movement that the Starbucks enterprise launched to give the world a look into a place where people come together, and where good things happen when they do. Playing off Starbucks's idea of "The Third Space," Brew Connections brings an area between work and home, where people can meet, to a virtual medium.
